Second Annual Symposium on Upper Gastrointestinal Malignancies
The Sofitel Philadelphia
Philadelphia, PA
September 6, 2008

CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE

The Second Annual Symposium on Upper Gastrointestinal Malignancies is designed to update medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists; gastroenterologists; nurses; and other clinicians on the broad advances made in the prevention, early diagnosis, and therapy of upper gastrointestinal malignancies in recent years. This symposium has been designed as an educational and scientific meeting that will provide cutting-edge updates on the biology, diagnosis, and multidisciplinary management of these diseases. Controversies in each of these areas will be outlined, and changes in treatment paradigms will be reviewed. Investigational agents and targeted therapies and their context for potential application in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal malignancies will also be discussed. This interactive symposium will include didactic sessions and case-based discussion with audience response from leading faculty that will represent all aspects of research in upper gastrointestinal malignancies. This year’s breakout session on the “Biology of Neoplasia,” in which we bring together research and clinical leaders in a particular malignancy, will focus on the pathology and diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. This symposium is intended to promote and facilitate education and collaborative research in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal malignancies.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This educational program is directed toward medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists; gastroenterologists; internal medicine and primary care physicians; and fellows interested in hepatocellular, pancreatic, gastric, and esophageal cancers. Nurses, physician assistants, and other individuals interested in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal malignancies are also invited to attend.
